Caspar Diedrich Haupt acquires the mills called “Rosmühle” and “Friedenthaler Mühle” in Frankenberg and produces handmade straw board

1859
Sell of both mills and move to Wrexen due to better straw supply possibilities

1863
C. D. Haupt acquires the “Mißgunst Hammer” – (today’s premises) - rebuild of the mill to become a straw board mill

1869 / 1874
Production start of the 1st fourdrinier board machine. A year later production start of a further fourdrinier machine and a board winding machine – working width in 1874: remarkable 150 cm

1889
Caspar Diedrich Haupt dies. His son Gustav assumes the responsibility of the mill – specialisation of bookbinding straw board.

1890
A fire destroys the whole mill. Rebuilt with two new fourdrinier board machines. Daily production output: 7 tons straw board

1922
Carl & Paul lead the company in third generation

1926
After Carls sudden death his son Dietrich enters the company as associate. Paul leaves the company after some years

Dietrich Haupt assumes the sole responsibility of the company

Investment in a new counter pressure steam plant and stock preparation plant

Interruption of positive company growth due to the war and postwar period

New fourdrinier board machine (working width: 225 cm) and new stock preparation plant is put into operation

Centenarian Anniversary – daily production output of bookbinding straw board: 15 tons

1956 / 1962
Renew of boiler & straw preparation plant. The first waste paper stock preparation is installed – enlargement of the board machine: 20 tons daily production

With Mrs. Ingrid Kramer-Haupt and her husband Mr. Dr. Klaus Kramer the fifth generation assumes responsibility for the company

1968
A milestone in the company history - after 114 years the straw board production is stopped. With immediate effect waste paper is the only production basis – daily production: 45 tons

1970
Built-up of a centralised steam- and power plant – increase of daily production up to 50 tons

1970 / 1971
Take up of corrugated board production with a new duplex paper machine with two endless wires and a working width of 465 to 490 m – daily production: 80 to 100 tons

1974
Dietrich Haupt dies, Dr. Klaus Kramer assumes the sole responsibility of the company

1975 / 1976
A new fully automatic waste paper stock preparation and automatic starch preparation are put into operation. Enlargement of the new paper machine – daily production capacity: up to 200 tons corrugated board und up to 70 tons bookbinding board

1989
The family-owned company becomes part of the world-wide known Jefferson Smurfit Group with its headquarter in Dublin

1992
Closedown of the PM 1

1994
Michael V. Brenck undertakes the management of the company as managing director. Enlargement of the power plant and the effluent treatment plant in order to assure capacity increase of the paper machine

1995
Enlargement of the board machine PM 2 – at this time the machine has a higher productivity as the former PM 1 and PM 2 together in 1992

1997
C. D. Haupt acquires two corrugated plants: Wellit Wellpappenfabrik in Delbrück and Schneverdinger Wellpappenwerk in Schneverdingen

2000
For the first time the paper machine PM 3 produces more than 200,000 tons

2002
Startup of the new build logistic centre in order to guarantee prompt and careful delivery of bookbinding board. Finalisation of cutting department extension to meet customers requirements

2004
The paper machines of the Europa Carton in Hoya and Viersen, acquired by the Jefferson Smurfit Group in 2003, and the paper mill of Wrexen are strategically and operationally combined into Smurfit Germany-Paper Division led by Michael V. Brenck

In its 150th anniversary year the company is a reliable and efficient partner with an annual production of 220,000 tons of corrugated board and nearly 80,000 tons of bookbinding board for its customers all over the world.

2005
The winning combination – At the end of 2005 the merger between Jefferson Smurfit and Kappa Packaging into Smurfit Kappa Group was announced.

D
ue this merger the Smurfit Kappa Group becomes the clear European leader in containerboard, corrugated board and solid board packaging, as well as further key positions in several other packaging and paper market segments. With over 40,000 employees the new company operates in 20 European, 9 South American, Canadian, Singaporean, American and South African countries, with total sales in excess of € 7 billion.

2006
Michael Brenck retires, Karlheinz Schimmel, former mill manager, succeeds him as Managing Director in Wrexen. C. D. Haupt’s paper side becomes member of the RPE cluster made up of Smurfit Kappa’s six Dutch, German and Tchech paper mills headed by Dr. Peter Kramp (MD Zülpich paper), whereas the board machine becomes part of Smurfit Kappa’s solid board division headed by Geert Nuus (NL).

2009
Stefan Beck, hitherto mill manager of Smurfit Kappa Viersen, succeeds Karlheinz Schimmel as managing director of Smurfit Kappa C. D. Haupt, all while keeping his Viersen role. The company embarks on an another ambitious investment project: the production of white Testliners on the paper machine PM 3. Aim is to be able to produce white Testliners in spring 2011. In this context, the capacity of the biological water treatment plant will be increased by nearly 50 %.
