C. D. Haupt was founded in 1854 as a straw board mill and was enlarged in 1970 by the paper mill. Since 1989 the family property belonged to the Jefferson Smurfit Group plc..
At the end of 2005 Jefferson Smurfit and Kappa merged into Smurfit Kappa Group. Since then Smurfit Kappa C. D. Haupt Papier- und Pappenfabrik GmbH & Co. KG belongs to the European leader in containerboard, as well as corrugated and solid paper packaging.
